F1 audiences fall in 2013

Audience figures for the 2013 season of F1 are not good. The drop announced on a global scale is 10%, with a reduction of 50 million for a total of 450 million viewers. The main factors raised by the report highlight a second part of the season dominated by Sebastian Vettel harming the interest of the Championship as well as the paid broadcasting of the discipline in China and France.

Brazil accounts for a lot of this decline since the discipline "only" interested 77,2 million viewers compared to 85,6 million last year, even though the country is one of the largest markets for F1. The new broadcast carried out in China, where the CCTV channel was replaced by a set of 13 regional channels, also caused damage since the recorded loss was 29,8 million viewers. Despite the prowess of the four-time world champion, the audience also deteriorated in Germany with a drop of 8,7% (for a total of 31,3 million viewers). For France, the transition from TF1 to Canal+ increased the number of viewers from 16 to 10,2 million.

However, some signs are still positive. In Great Britain, audiences rebounded by 1,7% with 29,1 million viewers after a bad 2012 when F1 was partly broadcast on a pay channel. Ditto in Italy with a result up 2,9%. But the biggest increase recorded is in the USA since 11,4 million viewers were recorded last year compared to only 1,7 million in 2012.
