On the occasion of this 2025 season, AUTOhebdo has decided to analyze in detail this globally revamped grid. Because the least we can say is that there has been a lot of movement during the transfer market, thus offering an air of renewal to a relatively calm field in recent times. After analysis(s), several figures have emerged to decorate this grid version 2025. Here are a few of them.

9 polemen

Of the 20 drivers expected to start the first Grand Prix of the season in Australia (March 14-16), 9 of them have secured at least one pole position. Lewis Hamilton is well ahead with 104. Followed by Max Verstappen (40) Charles Leclerc (26) Fernando Alonso (22) Lando Norris (9) Carlos Sainz (6), George Russell (5), Nico Hulkenberg (1) et Lance stroll (1)

10 winners

Another area in which Sir Lewis is unique in the world since he also holds the number of victories in the history of the F1 with 105, including the last at Silverstone in 2024. The other 9 winners on the 2025 grid are: Max Verstappen (63), Fernando Alonso (32), Charles Leclerc (8), Carlos Sainz (4), Lando Norris (4), George Russell (3), Oscar piastri (2) Pierre Gasly (1) et Esteban Ocon (1)

3 champ

There are three on the grid: Lewis Hamilton (7: 2008, 2014, 2015, 2017-2020), Max Verstappen (4: 2021-2024) and Fernando Alonso (2: 2005 and 2006).

4 promoted from F2 directly

This 2025 season will rhyme with youth. Indeed, no less than 4 drivers are arriving directly from the Formula 2. It's the highest total since 2019 when Lando Norris, Alex Albon and George Russell had joined the grid. This year they are: Gabriel Bortoleto, the champion, Isack Hadjar, his runner-up, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Oliver Bearman. They will ride respectively for Sauber, Racing Bulls, Mercedes et Haas.

6 drivers will start their first full season

In addition to the four promoted from Formula 4, a total of six drivers will be in the starting line-up for the first time. Gabriel Bortoleto, Isack Hadjar, Andrea Kimi Antonello, Oliver Bearman – who had been called up as a substitute on three occasions in 2 – Jack Doohan, who was a reserve driver inAlpine in 2024 and competed in the last Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, and Liam Lawson, who had never started a season, still being called up in progress (2023 and 2024).

13 nationalities

This year, the 20 drivers who will be at least at the start of the first Grand Prix in Australia will represent no less than 13 countries in the world. The English are in the lead with 4 drivers: Lando Norris, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Oliver Bearman. France follows with 3: Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Isack Hadjar. Spain (2, Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso) and Australia (2, Jack Doohan and Oscar Piastri) are tied while 9 other countries have only one representative: Canada (Lance Stroll), Monaco (Charles Leclec), Brazil (Gabriel Bortoleto), Germany (Nico Hülkenberg), Italy (Andrea Kimi Antonelli), Japan (Yuki tsunoda), Netherlands (Max Verstappen), New Zealand (Liam Lawson) and Thailand (Alex Albon). That's 3 fewer nationalities than on the grid for the last Grand Prix held in Abu Dhabi in December.

8 new duets

Further proof of a lively transfer market, only two teams have kept their duo: McLaren, with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, and Aston Martin, Fernando Alonso-Lance Stroll. There will thus be 8 new associations: Charles Leclerc-Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari), Max Verstappen-Liam Lawson (Red Bull), George Russell-Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), Pierre Gasly-Jack Doohan (Alpine), Esteban Ocon-Oliver Bearman (Haas), Yuki Tsunoda-Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls), Carlos Sainz-Alex Albon (Williams) and Nico Hülkenberg-Gabriel Bortoleto (Sauber).

3 French

There will be three on the grid this year: Pierre Gasly, Esteban Ocon and Isack Hadjar. A first since 2020: Esteban Ocon (Renault), Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) and Romain Grosjean (Haas).

4 engine manufacturers

While waiting for the arrival of Audi and Honda, there will be 4 engine manufacturers this season, the last with the new engine regulations: Mercedes (Mercedes, Aston Martin, McLaren and Williams), Ferrari (Ferrari, Haas and Sauber), Honda RBPT (Red Bull and Racing Bulls) and Renault (Alpine).

27 years, 2 months and 25 days

This will be the average age of the grid at the start of the Australian Grand Prix on March 16. Compared to the first Grand Prix of last season in Bahrain, this has dropped by more than two years (29 years, 5 months and 12 days).

6 drivers in the starting line-up for the first time (Antonelli, Bearman, Bortoleto, Doohan, Hadjar and Lawson), quite a renewal of the executives indeed, but how many will still be in place at the 1 summer break and then confirmed in 2025? The bets are open...
