15, like the number of victories of Max Verstappen

While in 2021 the crossover with Lewis Hamilton took him to the last lap of the last Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, in 2022 the driver Red Bull had a little quieter life. However, the start of the season had not been to the advantage Max Verstappen. Although winner of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, the 2e of the campaign, the Dutchman was forced to retire twice in the first three rounds of the year. After Australia, 3e event of the campaign, the future double champion was 46 points behind Charles Leclerc.

Despite a significant delay, Max Verstappen was patient and did not give up. Result ? The rest was almost perfect for him with 11 new successes including a series of 5 consecutive (France, Hungary, Belgium, Netherlands and Italy), a first for him in his career. By adding Japan, where he won the title, the United States, Mexico and Abu Dhabi, the Dutchman increased his tally to 15 successes. Which makes him the new record holder for the number of victories in a season. The previous one was 13, co-owned until this year by Michael Schumacher et Sebastian Vettel.

7 pole positions

Almost untouchable on Sunday, Max Verstappen had a little more difficulty imposing his law on Saturday, Charles Leclerc's favorite day. Compared to 2021, the year of his first title, it is true that the Batavian experienced a slight decline. It must be recognized that his Monegasque rival, finally having competitive equipment, gave him a hard time since he took no less than 9 pole positions in 22 qualifying sessions while the driver of the Austrian team signed some 7. Two less than the 10 won the previous season in his duel against Lewis Hamilton.

5 best tricks

Among his 15 victories, 5 of them were maximized by the point for the best lap in the race, thus pocketing 26 points and not 25. At Imola last April, he even achieved the perfect shot since he won the Race Saturday sprint gleaning 8 additional units. The 5e The point for the best lap in the race was acquired during the Austrian Grand Prix when he was beaten by Charles Leclerc, thus losing 6 lengths on the Monegasque and not 7.

17 podiums

In 22 races, Max Verstappen got on the box 17 times. Among the 17, 15 were on the highest step of the podium, settling for 3e place in Monaco and a 2e in Austria. Among the 5 absences, 2 are due to dropouts. The other 3 concern a damaged flat bottom at Silverstone (7e), a compromised race in Singapore (7e) after an error by Red Bull in qualifying and a difficult weekend in Brazil where he was not in the mix and where he experienced a difficult Sunday with a penalty, notably after a penalty for contact with Lewis Hamilton.

616 laps and 3 kilometers in the lead

With 17 victories under his belt, it is obvious that Max Verstappen has spent a lot of time at the top of the Grand Prix. The most complete driver of the season, the Dutchman completed no less than 616 laps in the lead. In kilometers, this translates to 3 km leading the peloton.
