F1 teams against the Bahrain GP

The Bahrain Grand Prix, which is supposed to take place in two weeks, is constantly being talked about. Defenders of the event assure that the race can take place in good conditions while opponents point the finger at the violence perpetrated against demonstrators in the kingdom. The teams have preferred to remain silent until now, leaving it to the leaders of the discipline to make the best choice. However, a team director broke the silence to express the general feeling of the teams who fear for the safety of their staff and for the smooth running of the event.

Under condition of anonymity, this team director who spoke in The Guardian, however, assures that he speaks on behalf of all the teams. “I feel really uncomfortable about the trip to Bahrain. I'll be honest, the only way for there to be no incidents is to form military protection around the circuit. And I think this is unacceptable both for the F1 as for Bahrain. We all hope that the FIA will cancel the meeting. From a legal point of view, we are free to go, but what concerns us is that not a day goes by without a problem arising. Other team principals share these concerns. I spent the whole week checking that the insurance was working in order to reassure the teams. I sent an email to our legal department to verify that our employees were covered for acts of terrorism and urban unrest. Although Bahrain is enjoying some political progress, it seems to me that it is not yet ready. The best thing would be for the event to be postponed until later in the season or even canceled. »
