EL3 canceled due to bad weather, qualifying uncertain

We had to wait 40 minutes for Free Practice 3 of the Styrian Grand Prix to be officially canceled due to the weather. The heavy showers that occurred from 11:00 a.m. in the Spielberg region had already resulted in the interruption of Formula 1 Race 3 this Saturday morning

Initially, the start of FP3 was postponed until further notice in the hope that conditions would improve and allow cars to be sent onto the track. The hoped-for lull never materialized and the session was finally abandoned at 12:40 p.m.

The question now concerns the continuation of the qualifying session, which is due to start at 15:00 p.m. in Austria. Responding to Jenson Button's microphone on Sky Sports F1, Liberty Media sports director Ross Brawn said the bad weather was slowly passing over the Red Bull ring.

« It is possible that the qualifications will take place at the end of the day, confided the former technical director Ferrari. If that's not possible, we have a plan for tomorrow. We will do the qualifying session in the morning, while the races Formula 2 et Porsche Supercup will not take place ».

Remember that if the qualifying session cannot take place at all, the EL2 classification will then serve as the basis for establishing the starting grid. In which case, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) would start on pole, ahead Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes), and Sergio Pérez (Racing Point).
