Teams welcome “good step forward” for 2021

They didn't say much but maybe you should try reading online. Last Tuesday, the leaders of the F1 presented in London their vision of the Grand Prix landscape for 2021.

Technical and sporting regulations, governance, redistribution of income, capped budgets, the files are numerous and few concrete details have filtered until now. Questioned on the subject in Bahrain, team managers remained quite vague on the specifics but they underlined the progress made over the past year.

« We tried to cover all the themes and I think we took a good step forward, commented Frédéric Vasseur for Alfa Romeo. It’s not an easy thing because there are 10 teams and as many different profiles, structures, and objectives, but we are going in the right direction in my opinion. ».

« Chase (Carey, CEO of Formula One Group, Editor’s note) presented his project to us and it was what we expected, added Zak Brown, director of Mclaren racing. I don't think anyone at the table was surprised because they had spoken a lot with the teams beforehand. The situation probably isn't perfect for anyone but it's usually a good sign. If it's not perfect for anyone, that often means it's good for everyone ».

As for Haas, Guenther Steiner was also satisfied but the Italian manager reminds that time is running out. However, it is rumored that the new regulations could be adopted after the current deadline which is set for the end of June. Toto wolff, boss of Mercedes, confirmed it at the microphone of Sky Sports while affirming that the meeting last Tuesday had been productive.

Mattia Binotto, his counterpart at Ferrari, declared “ optimistic and convinced that the right balance would be found. It is not because the list of subjects to be addressed is long that we are far from finding the necessary compromises. ».

Little concrete therefore but perhaps we should see the absence of criticism as a sign of real progress.
