Ferraris in difficulty in the winding 3rd sector, points out Vettel

Just one day after the birth of her third child, Sebastian Vettel had a slightly eventful return to the office and was marked by a spin at turn 19 at the end of Free Practice 1.

5th time of the first driving session almost two full seconds from the reference of Valtteri Bottas, the four-time world champion reduced the gap to less than half a second in the evening with the 4th fastest time.

« We find ourselves fighting the same problems as on the last race weekends, commented Vettel as he got out of the car. We are a little behind on these bends that you negotiate at low and medium speed. We are not as fast as the others in the 3rd sector.

The tires tend to overheat and the car is a bit complicated to drive. We will do everything to improve our settings and deliver the best weekend possible. I didn't expect to spin. I was a little surprised to tell you the truth. I felt like I was going to have to catch up behind but it didn't really work. It's a bit of a shame but there was no damage, except on the rim ».

Vettel was not the only one to make a mistake in this famous 3rd sector since his teammate Charles Leclerc, 3rd in EL2, three tenths behind the Mercedes peak, also went to kiss the wall at the exit of turn 19.

Absent from the traditional Thursday media day, the German was able to avoid questions about the consequences of his collision with his teammate at Interlagos. Impossible to do the same this Friday naturally.

« We will do everything to ensure that this type of event does not happen again., this is the priority, commented Vettel soberly. Charles and I are two big boys and we get along well. There is no internal concern. We just need to give ourselves a little more space next time ».

By avoiding moving to the left for example?
