GPs maintained even with positive coronavirus cases

La F1 wants to get back in the saddle. After a long truce linked to the pandemic, Liberty Media unveiled its recovery program with 8 Grand Prix disputed behind closed doors in Europe in the space of 10 weeks.

The risk of contagion remains high, but F1 director Chase Charey has already announced that the events would continue even if a driver contracts the coronavirus.

“An infected individual will not lead to the cancellation of the race, announced the representative of Liberty Media on the official F1 website. We encourage teams to establish procedures to be able to quarantine and replace a person. »

“We will have many topics of discussion and reflection, admitted Chase Carey. The range of “ifs” is too wide to anticipate each scenario, but a team not being able to compete in a race will not imply a cancellation of the event… If a driver is infected, the reserve drivers will be available. »

Chase Carey wanted to reassure the organizers' abilities to put procedures in place so that the paddock works in a safe environment. There Nascar has already paved the way by resuming competition in mid-May when the United States was the main source of Covid-19.
