The Dutch, Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix postponed

Given the evolution of the Coronavirus pandemic, particularly in Europe where several countries are in total lockdown, the announcement was predictable.

Liberty Media confirmed this Thursday that the Dutch, Spanish and Monaco Grands Prix have been postponed to an unknown date. They were to take place respectively in Zandvoort on May 3, Barcelona on May 10, and Monte Carlo on May 24.

The decision follows the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix last weekend and the postponement of the rounds in Bahrain (March 22) and Vietnam (April 5).

Currently, the 2020 campaign could therefore begin in Baku, Azerbaijan on June 7 but the FOM refuses to project that far and specifies that the season will start “ as soon as possible, as soon as the health situation is safe ».

Faced with this completely disrupted schedule, the summer break and compulsory closure of factories F1 was extended by 2 to 3 weeks and brought forward to the March-April period with prior declaration to the FIA.

F1 and the Federation continue to communicate constantly with promoters and the relevant authorities to monitor the situation and study solutions to reschedule postponed events. For their part, the teams met by video conference this Thursday to adopt a postponement of the 2021 regulatory revolution for one year and discuss the puzzle of the 2020 calendar in the second half of the year.
