The lines of the future regulations for 2017

The future regulation of the F1 which will be implemented from 2017 will aim to make the races more interesting and the single-seaters more spectacular. There BBC Sport revealed several points towards which the discipline should turn.

The first objective would be to reduce the differences in performance between engines. Costs are expected to be reduced by one million euros in 2017 (compared to 18 to 23 million euros currently) to reach an amount of 12 million euros in 2018.

The number of engines admitted per season could be reduced to three from five currently. The sound should also be improved. The regulations also provide for ensuring each team has motorization after Red Bull found herself without a contract for 2016 before reaching an agreement with Renault. The hybrid system should also be retained.

When it comes to Pirelli tires, degradation should be proportional to performance. The studies also consider limiting tire degradation when a driver closely follows a competitor. The rubbers will also be wider.

The single-seaters will change their appearance by being wider and offering more aero downforce, particularly at the level of the flat bottom.

The F1 Strategy Group will meet on Tuesday April 26 to discuss the future regulations.
