Track limits regulated at Imola

After the episode of the highly contested Bahrain Grand Prix, the FIA wanted to take stock of the track limits before the start of the weekend in Imola.

For this meeting in Emilia-Romagna, the second of the 2021 season, three turns will be closely scrutinized by the race management, namely 9, 13 and 15, with a view to avoiding further confusion.

For the 9th, the FIA focused on the exit. Thus, any driver going wide in the turn (more contact between the car and the track) will have his time canceled by the commissioners.

Concerning turn 13, the race direction will look at the apex point. Any bad passage will result in an invalidated time.

Turn 15 will also be monitored at the exit location like turn 9. This time the track limit is defined beyond the red, white and green kerb. The sanction will be the same: cancellation of time.

The drivers concerned will be notified by their team, which will be notified by the stewards.

In the race, at the third caution, in total and not per corner, the black and white flag will be presented to the driver in question. Subsequently, any additional poor passage on these three points in question in the turns will be reported to the officers who will study the case.

Unlike the Bahrain Grand Prix, the FIA should not change the rules depending on how the weekend unfolds. It’s up to pilots to take note now and stick to it.
