As announced at the start of the week, the Yas Marina circuit will undergo its first major modification after just over 10 years of service.

Open since 2009, the Aboudabien route will undergo significant changes in view of the arrival of the Formula 1 next December (10th to 12th) with the aim of offering more spectacle on the track.

« This project, which is a very important episode in the history of Yas Marina, concerns three distinct sections of the track where work will be carried out., confides Saif Al Noaimi, CEO of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management. This will allow drivers to have more overtaking opportunities but also to increase the level of all events held on site. ».

As a result, the chicane in the first sector will disappear as we can see in the presentation video. It will give way to a straight line which will lead to the famous hairpin. The latter will also be expanded.

The four tight turns (11, 12, 13 and 14) of the second sector will be removed and replaced by a single, long and inclined curve.

Finally, turns 17, 18, 19 and 20, all located under the hotel in the last sector of Yas Marina, will also be modified with the aim of creating a faster and more fluid section.
