Will the engines reach 1000hp in 2017?

The meeting of the Strategic Group of F1 which was held yesterday in Paris studied different avenues to relaunch the show and the interest in the discipline in the coming years. If the faults of Marussia have caused a lot of ink to flow, the future of the Russian team was not at the center of the debates.

The main teams in the field sitting at the same table with the decision-makers of the FOM and the FIA notably discussed an evolution of the current engine, the V6 1.6l turbo / hybrid having disappointed the spectators with its lack of sound. An increase in power up to 1000hp desired by Bernie Ecclestone remains on the cards on the horizon 2017. The maximum authorized fuel flow could also be increased. Ferrari would have proposed switching to a bi-turbo / hybrid V8, but this possibility would have quickly been rejected according to Car engine and sport.

The appearance of the single-seaters could also change in terms of the bodywork and tires, with wider rubber at the rear from next year. Pirelli had also indicated at the start of the year thathe was ready to accept these possible changes.
