New F1 qualifications postponed?

The Commission F1 studied a new qualifying format after several meetings held in Geneva (Switzerland) which seemed to be able to be put in place from the opening of the 2016 season at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne scheduled for the weekend of March 20. However, some personalities in the paddock were concerned about the lack of time needed to prepare the cars for this new format.

“The new qualifying format will not happen immediately because we cannot be ready on time. It was planned for the beginning of the year, but we will not be able to fix the software in time”, explained Bernie Ecclestone, director of the FOM, in The Independent.

The new format could thus come into force at the start of the European season with the Spanish Grand Prix contested on May 15 at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona. “These changes will probably come to Spain. In Australia we will have the old qualifications”, confirmed the F1 financier.
