New qualifiers launched in Melbourne

The new qualifying format will finally be put in place at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 19. Despite software issues raised by Bernie Ecclestone, the director of the FOM, who expected to see these elimination qualifications from the Spanish GP played on May 15, the FIA World Council decided not to take it into account.

Pilots will therefore have to immediately get used to this new format where 15 drivers will qualify for the second session and eight for Q3 which will end head-to-head with the two fastest competitors.
