With the fervor around Max Verstappen, the idea of seeing a Grand Prix in the Netherlands has logically returned to the forefront. But as Bernhard von Oranje, promoter of the Grand Prix and co-owner of the Zandvoort track, former venue of the event in the premier category, explains, the process remains complicated.
“We are talking with Liberty Media, but the chances of this happening are not great. » admits von Oranje to Formula 1 magazine, while recalling that the Netherlands has a large fan base, as evidenced by the numerous supporters present during a demonstration.
“You can see that during a demo of Formula 1, there are 100 people in the stands. From a commercial point of view, such a Grand Prix is very interesting, but we all have to want it. For me, as a promoter, it is a difficult story, but as long as the chance of a Dutch Grand Prix remains there, we will continue. »
The last time the Netherlands hosted F1 was in 1985, with Niki Lauda winning (McLaren). In addition to the track located on the edge of the North Sea, the country has a second major route potentially available in Assen.
