Drivers opposed to Ecclestone's proposals

In order to revive interest in F1 in decline in recent years, Bernie Ecclestone proposed installing walls near the corners so that drivers are harshly punished if they exceed track limits.

The proposal was clearly not well received in the paddock, with drivers expressing their disapproval during the press conference held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez which hosts F1 this weekend for the Mexican Grand Prix.

“I think there are around ten other avenues to explore first, commented Nico Rosberg, the leader of the Championship. If we want to make the discipline even better than before, we should above all think about safety. »

“I agree with Nico, added Sergio Pérez. There are many areas that can be improved in the discipline before putting safety at risk. We can make the circuits more demanding for the drivers, without having to install walls, but by making the drivers pay for their mistakes in the event of going off the track. For example, we could install dirt that wastes time, ideas to force pilots to avoid making mistakes. »

“I did a lap of the circuit (Hermanos Rodriguez) on foot (yesterday) morning and, like in Austin (Texas), we know where we can go wide seeing so many runoff areas, recognised Carlos Sainz Jr. This is a good thing for security, but I am sure that we can find tricks to complicate things, so that we at least pay something instead of being advantaged. For the moment, nothing happens if you miss a brake. We release the brakes and don't even lock the wheels. I totally agree with Checo. »
