Red Bull drivers poorly rewarded

The Red Bull RB13 shone in the rain at Monza during qualifying for the Italian GP. Max Verstappen was closest to the pole sitter Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), even if the Dutchman finished more than a second behind the benchmark, while Daniel Ricciardo finished in 3rd place ahead Lance stroll (Williams).

The Red Bull drivers will, however, have to start in the second part of the grid after receiving penalties for changes to elements on their Power Units.

“I could only be satisfied with these qualifications, comments Max Verstappen who will start 14th on the grid. It’s obviously a nice surprise to be 2nd and I always like riding in the rain. Tire choice was difficult during the first two qualifying sessions because the intermediates never really worked well. I didn't have much grip with the wet tires in Q3, I slipped a lot, and I was never really comfortable. I cooled the tires on one lap and my last attempt was not bad. »

“We knew from the beginning we were going to have penalties. I hope we can overtake and get back to the front. We can hope to finish 5th or 6th,” specifies Max Verstappen.

His teammate Daniel Ricciardo, 17th on the grid, shares the Dutchman's frustration even if he is also satisfied with the potential shown in qualifying.

“It’s obviously annoying to have these penalties here, confirms Daniel Ricciardo. It would have been nice to go to the forefront, especially alongside unusual names in these positions. We would have had a chance of staying ahead probably longer. In the end, I only earn one place for this good work and I will take it. »

“I didn't really enjoy the first two qualifying sessions because we weren't very fast and I felt like I was a passenger in my car. On the other hand, we made good progress in Q3, I felt it immediately. We're going far away and I don't expect to end up in the same place.", warns Daniel Ricciardo.
