Among the spectators present around the Las Vegas circuit, one of them does not seem to have paid for her ticket. A certain Marie Jeanne! Since the beginning of the weekend initiated Thursday evening local time by the holding of free practice 1 and 2, the drivers have indeed discovered a smell that is quite unusual on racing circuits. We are not talking about the smell of hot tar or the aromas of oil emanating from the garages, but rather a sweet scent of marijuana.
"What is very noticeable on the circuit is the smell of marijuana throughout the night", Sergio Perez said with a burst of laughter. "I'm already a little tired of it, the amount is incredible. It's something that all the drivers will definitely talk about." Far from being shocked, the pilots were mostly surprised by the strength of the smell.
It should be noted that the consumption of medical and recreational cannabis has been legal since 2017 in the state of Nevada. With a few rules to respect, however, such as the ban on consuming in the street while the sale is prohibited to minors under 21. So it's not certain that spectators are entirely within their rights!
In any case, it had the merit of making Franco Colapinto laugh. The Argentinian, who never misses an opportunity to put on a show in front of the cameras since his debut in F1 intervened in Monza last September, did not let his chance to clown around once again pass him by.
"There was a smell of joint", he first confirmed. "If they do a doping test on the drivers now, I think we'll all be positive!" With just a few hours to go before qualifying, it seems that the drivers have an additional comfort issue to deal with, in addition to the precarious grip and cool temperatures on the Strip! It looks promising!

Hello, Mohammed, when will there be a drug test when leaving the car? How many points will be taken off your license for driving while in a daze?
