Points out of reach for McLaren?

The first free practice sessions for the British Grand Prix yesterday above all allowed McLaren to test new parts for its MP4-30 powered by the Honda turbo/hybrid V6. The British team set out to complete short relays, Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso accumulating only 26 and 31 laps respectively yesterday. The 2009 world champion also seemed not very confident about the racing possibilities for McLaren, but is hoping for a slight improvement this Saturday.

“We took a small step forward with the settings at the end of the afternoon. There's still more rhythm to be found, Button says. For us this weekend will be about understanding the package. We are not going to be looking for points on Sunday, but it can still be a useful weekend for us. I think we're going to make some significant set-up changes, and we should be better today. I would be delighted to have a good result in front of my audience, but it will be difficult this year. »

Fernando Alonso, for his part, focused on qualifying, but also recognized the difficulty of the task for this Saturday. “We will take things step by step. Getting into Q2 will be complicated, we have to beat the Saubers if we want to get out of Q1. We will do our best. Then we will focus on reaching the finish in the race. »

After the third free practice session held this morning, qualifying will be followed live on our internet from 14 p.m.
