AUTOhebdo predictions: who is in the game in Istanbul?

What a qualifying session my ancestors! A little crazy and grand-guignolesque at times but rather pleasant to follow, no? Ok, in the cockpits, things were less fun. “ I can tell you that it's a lot less fun than on TV » whispered like this Alexander albon Saturday evening, after a very solid performance but a bit frustrating for his team Red Bull

We thought the Red Bull team was best placed to break the hegemony of Mercedes in qualifications and yet it was one of the satellite structures of the Star that stood out! With its RP20 very inspired by the W10 fielded last year, Racing Point strikes a big blow by placing its two drivers in the leading trio, including Lance stroll in pole position.

Between them, however, slips a very serious customer, who could well have the last word in the race on Sunday.

Comfortable from the first laps on Friday, author of the best time in Free Practice 1, 2, and 3, then in Q1 and Q2, the Dutchman was disappointed to say the least to have a pole taken away from him which he felt would have to fall in his purse.

The situation is reminiscent of that in Mexico in 2018 when an ultra-dominant Verstappen was beaten to the post by his then teammate Daniel Ricciardo. Furious, the fiery pilot Orange had barely slept 3 hours and responded as soon as the lights went out the next day by making the Australian cold on the impulse to go and win without firing a shot. We would not be surprised to see the scenario repeated on Sunday in Turkey.

Given his talent and the equipment he has at his disposal this weekend, Verstappen can undoubtedly afford not to go all out in the first few meters of the race... but we know the boy's attacking temperament!

The setbacks of the Mercedes made him the big favorite of the race on paper and his rating is affected since it is now 1,60*, a significantly less gratifying value than those of the drivers around him on Grid.

  • Big odds in spades

Despite their superb group shot in qualifying, the Racing Point drivers represent a much more attractive option in the event of victory. A success from Lance Stroll or Sergio Pérez would bring you the equivalent of 20* times your initial stake.

The good performance of Red Bull this weekend can also make Alexander Albon's profile interesting in your race strategy. A victory for the Thai, which would significantly help him retain his place in Milton Keynes, also offers odds of 20*.

For comparison, that of a Valtteri Bottas stands at 14* while the Finn starts from 9th place and Mercedes does not seem to have found the key to getting the tires up to temperature in Istanbul this week. A victory of Lewis Hamilton remains rather low, at 3,15*. No doubt because the one who has a strong chance of becoming seven-time world champion on Sunday has escaped from almost all the bad times this season.

Given the uncertainty surrounding the local weather and the grip conditions that the new tarmac on the Istanbul track will offer early Sunday afternoon, the return of the F1 in Turkey could hold big surprises, which are inherently difficult to anticipate but can potentially pay off very big.
