Red Bulls illegal at Hockenheim?

Sebastian Vettel, second on the Hockenheim grid, and Mark Webber, eighth following his gearbox change penalty, could lose their qualifying results after a technical inspection by the FIA revealed an infringement of the regulations concerning the engine mapping of the two single-seaters.

Jo Bauer, the FIA technical delegate, is convinced that both cars are illegal. “After inspection of the engine maps of cars no. 1 and 2, there is an infringement of Article 5.5.3 of the technical regulations because the engines are capable of delivering more torque at medium revs”, he told the commissioners. “This new engine mapping artificially plays on the aerodynamic characteristics of both cars, which is also an infringement. » The commissioners are currently deliberating on possible sanctions to be applied.
