The fallout from the French GP exceeded forecasts

The organizers of the French GP organized a press conference this Thursday to provide a quantitative assessment of the return of the F1 at Paul Ricard.

The results are positive since the economic benefits have exceeded forecasts. The figures show a harvest of 78 million euros, or 20% more than predictions made in 2016, as well as 550 jobs “created or retained”.

The distribution of expenses incurred by spectators was as follows: 34% in accommodation, 35% in catering, 11% in transport and 20% in commerce and leisure.

If 87% of the public went to the Var to attend the French GP, the region also benefited from good ratings with 500 million viewers worldwide, including 3,5 million on French channels. TF1 and Canal+.

In addition, spectators extended their stay in the region with an average of 4,4 days more for extra-regional French people and 5,6 days for foreigners. The British were the most numerous foreigners ahead of those from the Benelux, the Germans, the Italians and the Americans.

“I hope that there will be 10, 20, 30 or even 40 years left, but the Grand Prix is perhaps not intended to be organized forever in the Southern Region., recognized Christian Estrosi, the president of the French GP, quoted in Var Matin. If I have taken my responsibilities, no doubt one day a government or our sports federations will take a more important role. It is not set in stone that he will remain on the Paul-Ricard circuit forever. »
