Pirelli's strategies for the Singapore GP

Drivers will have to deal with soft and super soft tires at the Singapore GP, a choice identical to that of 2014 where Lewis Hamilton had imposed itself. Pirelli believes that these tires are best suited to the urban circuit despite the 23 turns that make it up. The manufacturer of the discipline recalls that the change in temperatures, with this event contested in the evening, will be an important parameter. The Italian supplier estimates that the performance gap between the two types of rubber is approximately 2 seconds per lap.

“As we are approaching an urban track, we have chosen to offer the two softest compounds in the range, which offer optimal mechanical grip and rapid warm-up. These two parameters are indeed the key to success in Marina Bay”, underlines Paul Hembery, Pirelli sporting director. “Teams and drivers will have to take into account many factors, such as the unusual shape of the track, the difference in performance between the two compounds, the need to conserve fuel throughout this grueling race, and even the probability of safety car, which has never failed to appear on the track during each edition. »

In 2014, Lewis Hamilton built his victory by completing his first three stints on super soft tires, with stops on the 15th and 31st laps, before finishing the race on soft tires from the 52nd.
