The manufacturer of the Formula 1, Pirelli, has revealed the different possible strategies for the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. According to the Italian supplier, the teams must opt for a two-stop strategy on the Yas Marina circuit, a more efficient choice. During Free Practice, the tires suffered and the degradation of the 18-inch tires was greater than expected. Soft tires should be abandoned by drivers, who will rush to harder tires.

Depending on the degradation of the tires, two options are available to the teams on the UAE track: a Medium – Hard – Medium strategy or a Medium – Hard – Hard strategy. Pirelli therefore believes that starting with medium tires is the most logical choice. The first stop should take place around the 20th lap for the first option, or around the 17th lap for the choice of going twice on hard compounds.

Pirelli says a one-stop strategy is not impossible, but a little slower than the previous two. In the case of a start on medium tires, switching to hard tires would then be possible from lap 22. An alternative strategy is possible, switching to soft tires at the end of the Grand Prix, a choice which could become necessary in security car case.

In terms of the remaining sets of tires, the allocation is almost similar for all drivers. All drivers have at least one set of hard soft tires, except for the two Aston Martin. They all still have a new set of medium erasers, and even two unused sets for the Mercedes, McLaren, Williams, Alfa Romeo and Haas. Max Verstappen also has two new sets of medium tires.

As a reminder, Pirelli brought to Abu Dhabi the softest tires in its range: the C3 (hard), the C4 (medium) and the C5 (soft).
