Hanoi Circuit Track Works Completed

Scheduled from April 3 to 5, the Vietnamese Grand Prix, contested on the Hanoi circuit will be one of the great novelties of the 2020 season in the World Championship F1.

The organizers of the Southeast Asian event confirmed this Wednesday that work on the 5,607 km long track with 23 turns was completed in recent days, with the laying of the last 150 meters of asphalt on the pit straight.

Samples of the new surface which will accommodate the F1 single-seaters were previously sent to laboratories in Singapore and Germany to undergo extensive testing to ensure they met all FIA requirements.

“All materials were 100% locally sourced, with circuit engineers traveling the country from north to south to find the best material, with multiple tests at different mines located across Vietnam, specifies the organization.

In the end, the elements that now constitute the final layer of the Hanoi circuit were collected in Quang Ninh province and underwent a complex process before arriving at the circuit for the layering process.

The mixing station itself was built specifically to produce the best quality asphalt, as only the highest standard is possible for the Grade 1 required by the FIA. »

The pit building was completed a few weeks ago, so the circuit's permanent installations are all complete. These will now be temporary structures which will be added before the Grand Prix.

“This is an important milestone for us to celebrate as we move closer to hosting the first Formula 1 race weekend in Vietnam in just over a month. says Ms. Le Ngoc Chi, director of the organization.

With the help of everyone from Hermann Tilke and the F1 Motorsport division, we are confident in saying that this track will be one of the most difficult and exciting on the F1 calendar and we hope that it will quickly become a fan favorite. »

It remains to be seen whether the Grand Prix will take place given the spread of the coronavirus epidemic across the world, the Chinese Grand Prix having already been postponed to an undisclosed date.
