V6 turbo hybrids represent less than 1% of the F1 carbon footprint

Following the launch of its campaign for a greener Formula 1 over the coming decade, the sports authorities have revealed very instructive figures as to the sectors which pollute the most in the Grand Prix industry.

Thanks to a detailed presentation of the FOM, we learn that the F1 produces directly or indirectly 256 tonnes of CO551 per year, distributed as follows

  • 45% comes from logistics, namely air, sea and road freight used to move stable and Paddock Club equipment, as well as Pirelli tires.
  • 27,7% comes from staff transport, namely travel and hotel nights for team members, commercial partners, journalists, etc.
  • 19,3% comes from stable installations, namely factories, offices, wind tunnels, test benches, etc.
  • 7,3% are linked to on-site events, namely the power supply necessary for TV production, stable receptionists, the Paddock Club, and the paddock of promotional formulas.
  • 0,7% are rejected by the hybrid propellers, i.e. all of the on-track emissions from the 10 teams during the winter tests, the 21 Grands Prix, the tests during the season, and the runs organized after the curtain falls. Abu Dhabi.

This shows that sport itself pollutes much less than “ barnum which surrounds it ”, to quote a stable boss.
