Vibrations didn't help Kimi Räikkönen in Belgium

Since the start of the Spa weekend, Kimi Räikkönen seemed on positive momentum. Renewed for 2018 by the Team Ferrari, the Finn could evolve without pressure regarding his future by arriving on a track which was successful for him in his career.

Winner four times in the Ardennes, the former pilot McLaren had started his weekend off well with the best time in FP1, then in FP3 this morning. Enough to place Iceman among the favorites to compete for pole.

Si Lewis Hamilton quickly proved untouchable, Räikkönen was unable to raise his level to play the first line, disturbed in particular by vibrations on his car. « It was a very complicated qualification, comments the Ferrari driver.

Throughout the session, I had vibrations in the car coming and going. It's hard to know how much this affected the lap time, but it clearly didn't help. It's very disappointing because it's been a very good weekend so far. I felt we had all the tools to do well, the car was good and we had the speed. »

Kimi Räikkönen also tried to help his teammate Sebastian Vettel at the end of Q3, giving the German his aspiration in the last sector, after having missed his own lap. “The lap started well, but I started to struggle with the tire temperature and I made a mistake at turn 9 and it was over, mentions Räikkönen.

Fourth position isn't a disaster, but it's far from what I was hoping for. It's unfortunate, not in the right place at the right time, but tomorrow is another day. It will be very tricky with the tires for everyone. We hope that we will have a problem-free race and that we will make the right decisions. »
