Lewis Hamilton dominates ahead of Grosjean

Lewis Hamilton evolved at a different pace this afternoon on the Hungaroring circuit. The Briton already showed an impressive pace with the medium tires allowing him to keep his soft tires for the final session and the race. Author of a time of 1'20"953, the 2008 world champion places more than four tenths of a gap between his MP4-27 and his closest rival Romain Grosjean (Lotus). In difficulty during testing with an E20 suffering from understeer, the Frenchman seemed to have found the remedy since he achieved his best result in qualifying in Hungary by taking the first row ahead of Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) and Jenson Button (McLaren).

Kimi Räikkönen (Lotus) completes the top five, proving if necessary that the single-seaters ofenstone are at their best when conditions are summer. The Finn is ahead of the two drivers in the Team, Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. Williams had not pulled a bluff during practice since its two drivers qualified in the top ten, Pastor Maldonado ahead of Bruno Senna. Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) completes Q3 by taking tenth place.

There were many disappointments at the end of this session. Mark Webber (Red Bull) failed in eleventh position ahead of Paul di Resta (Force India). After a mediocre result at Hockenheim, Mercedes misses the boat again by missing Q3. Nico Rosberg will only start in 13th place on the grid while Michael Schumacher settles for 17th place. Conversely, Jean-Éric Vergne (Toro Rosso) managed to hoist his modest STR7 into 16th place ahead of the seven-time world champion while his teammate Daniel Ricciardo failed at the gates of Q2. Charles Pic (Marussia) once again takes the advantage over his much more experienced teammate Timo Glock and will start from 21st place.

The start of the Hungarian GP will be at 14 p.m. The hierarchy could well be called into question since stormy showers threaten the race.
