Lewis Hamilton delighted with Mercedes progress

Even more than the brilliant times which allowed Lewis Hamilton and George Russell to accompany Charles Leclerc on the podium in FP2 on Friday, the two Britons were especially delighted with the more predictable behavior of the Mercedes.

Obviously, on the side of Mercedes, it would be advisable not to get excited after a 2nd and 3rd place in Free Practice 2. To be convinced of this, you only need to look at Friday in Miami where George Russell dominated EL2 after finishing 2nd in EL1, for ultimately not even making the Q2 cut the next day. In Barcelona on Friday, things looked quite different. It would indeed seem that the updates carried out have borne fruit with regard to the overall behavior of the W13, and in particular the rebound phenomenon which affects the car to the star since the start of the year.

“I am positive, admitted Hamilton. Very happy with the progress made, so a big, big, big thank you to everyone at the factory for the work done. We're not the fastest yet, but we're on the right track. This is in fact the first time that we have not bounced in a straight line. We always have a little, especially in the turns, but it’s much better!” he rejoiced. Comments corroborated by his young compatriot George Russell.

“The car definitely reacts differently. We actually have almost no rebound in a straight line, which is good, but we still have some here and there in the corners, which obviously still needs to be adjusted.” Enough to allow Mercedes to rub shoulders with Red Bull and Ferrari in qualifying and in the race? “It’s honestly still a bit complicated with the car at the moment, wanted to remind Lewis. I think we can gain a few places on Saturday. And I hope we can get closer to the guys playing up front!” First response this Saturday afternoon, at 16 p.m.!
