Lewis Hamilton and his father still scarred by their argument

While Lewis Hamilton celebrated his third world title in F1, the Briton remembers the painful passages of his career. The old pilot McLaren explained in the magazine 60 Minutes on the channel CBS News that his desire to manage his career himself by putting his father Anthony aside in 2010 had a significant impact on his career.

“I was at the point where I was explaining to him: 'I just want you to be my father! » It was very hard for him to accept and it was just as difficult for me to do so. It was truly heartbreaking at the time. We had moved away a lot, it was like the Grand Canyon. This had an impact on my performance”, admitted the pilot Mercedes.

The former manager admitted to having taken time to accept his son's decision. “I couldn’t understand his choice. What did he mean when he said he didn't need me? It touched me deeply, but it was probably the best thing to do. He's not a boy anymore, he's a world champion. My desire for him to succeed had taken precedence over my status as a father. But if I hadn't fulfilled this role, he probably wouldn't have been so victorious.", underlined Anthony Hamilton in the American show.
