Lewis Hamilton, the bad deal

Lewis Hamilton (McLaren), who approached the Italian Grand Prix with the confidence of a leader, had to quickly put his ambitions aside. After getting off to an excellent start, the 2008 World Champion tried to catch up with Felipe Massa (Ferrari) to climb to third place. But, by hitting the Brazilian, Hamilton damaged his steering, ending his race in the gravel a few seconds later.

« Yes, I got off to a good start, I gained a place, I was fourth. I should have kept this place but I wanted to go further. I went too far and hit Felipe Massa. I'm sorry to the team because it was clearly a mistake on my part. This is what happens when you're a competitor and you always want more “, explains Hamilton.

The McLaren driver does not shy away and recognizes that Felipe Massa is not responsible for the contact which condemned his race. “ I wanted to attack it in a certain way but I got too close, my wheel caught, which caused me to abandon. I could not do anything. »

The British driver, by letting precious points slip away, allows Mark Webber (Red Bull) to regain the lead in the World Championship. He knows that this error could deprive him of a second title. “ It's not over but it's mistakes like this that cause you to lose a Championship. »
