Lewis Hamilton will only aim for points in 2013

The arrival of Lewis Hamilton in Mercedes has caused a lot of ink to flow. After the failed return of Michael Schumacher and the Silver Arrows who only managed to shine at the last Chinese Grand Prix with the victory of Nico Rosberg, the star manufacturer reorganized its structure to achieve a new start (including the replacement of Norbert Haug by Toto wolff to the position of sports director). However, the Brackley team will still have a lot of work to do to reduce the gap on its rival teams.

The new British recruit is aware that Mercedes' return to the top teams will take time. The main objective of the former pilot McLaren will be above all to obtain regular results by finishing in the points as often as possible. “We are not aiming for victory at the moment”, commented the former world champion in the paddock of the Circuit de Catalunya. “We hope to collect as many points as possible this year by aiming for the top ten. That doesn't mean (victory) is impossible... but I really don't see myself fighting for the Championship. Obviously, this is our ultimate goal but we must remember that the car was sometimes two seconds behind last year and we didn't gain two seconds. Furthermore, the teams have gained an extra second this year and we are not going to find three seconds like that. This can be hoped for at the end of the season but not at the start. The engine is the strong point of the car, its weak point being the aero downforce. »
