70 points behind, nine Grands Prix and three Sprints. This is the picture for the rest of this 2024 season. Lando Norris slowly climb back up on Max Verstappen but the reigning triple world champion maintains a clear lead. Asked about this at a press conference, Lewis Hamilton delivered his opinion.
According to him, " it's not impossible " that his compatriot goes back on the pilot Red Bull because there is " many points at stake » until the end of the season. But the seven-time world champion still qualified his statement. As an experienced driver and aware of the balance of power, he explained that it would take a stroke of luck for Lando Norris to win the Drivers' Championship at the end of the twelve remaining races (Grands Prix and Sprints combined).
« I think in the end, Max would only need to finish second in every race to win, Hamilton tempered. Norris would have to win every time and it still wouldn't be enough, So you would need a bit of luck. »
McLaren better positioned for Constructors' Championship
The pilot Mercedes showed more optimism, however, regarding the case of McLaren in the Constructors' Championship. He also sees his former team winning at the end of the season, but is hoping for some suspense...
« There is a real chance that McLaren will win the Constructors' title and that is very exciting., Lewis Hamilton said happily. I was there when the team won its last title (2007) It had been taken away from us, but we had won it in terms of performance that year. I don't think McLaren have won since, so I think it could be very exciting, not only for them, but for the F1. I hope it comes down to the wire, that would be great for the fans. At least with the performance they showed in Zandvoort, they might be able to do it. »
McLaren is only 30 points behind Red Bull in the Constructors' Championship. The step is therefore less high than in the Drivers' standings, especially when we know that the Norris/Piastres is more efficient than the Verstappen/PerezThe X factor of this battle will surely be the Mexican, who is playing both his future at Red Bull and the precious few points that could make his team crowned for the third consecutive time at the end of the season.
