Lewis Hamilton penalized by three places on the grid in Austria

Beaten by Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) for obtaining pole position this Saturday in Austria, Lewis Hamilton will not even have the possibility of challenging the Monegasque at the start tomorrow in the race from the front row.

The pilot Mercedes was in fact penalized three places on the starting grid (and a point on his license) for having hindered Kimi Räikkönen (Alfa Romeo Racing) in Q1 at turn 3.

The stewards recognized that if Lewis Hamilton, who had been warned of the arrival of faster cars during his exit lap, tried to step aside in front of the car from the Finn, his maneuver was not sufficient, Räikkönen having to shorten his turn.

Hamilton should therefore start from fourth place, Max Verstappen (Red Bull) being promoted to the front line. The Briton will share the second row with Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) since Kevin Magnussen (Haas) is also penalized for changing the gearbox.
