Lewis Hamilton close to feat

Lewis Hamilton almost created a sensation in Melbourne. Starting eleventh, the 2008 World Champion overtook many opponents in the first laps, taking advantage of his skill on a track with approximate grip. After the first tire change, the Briton continued his climb and found himself in third position, in the wheels of Robert Kubica (Renault). Although he seemed stuck behind the Pole, Lewis Hamilton still had an incredible race.

Then his team decided to have him change tires, so that he could benefit from new rubber. Certainly, Hamilton gained in grip but lost two places in the process, never managing to exceed the Ferrari de Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa. At the end of the race, while trying to overtake Alonso, Hamilton broke his teeth and was hit from behind by Webber, losing his fifth place to Nico Rosberg.

« I undoubtedly practiced one of the best pilots of my life, says Hamilton. Unfortunately, our strategy of changing tires a second time was not the right one. But the guys are brilliant people who often make the right decisions. Sometimes things don't go as planned, that's car racing. »

« It was disappointing to be kicked out by Mark Webber but I heard he apologized after the race, I appreciate the gesture. I am still satisfied with what I did. I put my heart into the work and I think I deserved better. And the car is really good. »

« Could Jenson and I have done the double? Maybe, yes, but we can't be sure. One thing is certain, it is that he had a magnificent race. Congratulations to him for his first victory at McLaren. »
