Lewis Hamilton wins strategy

Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was well on his way to securing his first victory of the season after taking the lead at the start, but it was ultimately Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) who signs his second success in a row after Monaco, his fifth in Montreal and the 45th of his career.

The three-time world champion regained the advantage over the German by making just one stop compared to two for the Ferrari driver. The former resident of Red Bull Racing However, seemed to have made the right choice by anticipating his second stint following the virtual safety car put in place due to the retirement of Jenson Button (McLaren) due to a mechanical problem, but his English rival managed to keep his soft tires until the checkered flag.

Valtteri Bottas (Williams) climbs, like last year, to the last step of the podium in Montreal, preceding Max Verstappen (Red Bull). The winner of the Spanish GP was almost overtaken by Nico Rosberg (Mercedes) at the end of the race, but the Championship leader spun and was only able to save fifth place.

The Grand Prix was difficult for Nico Rosberg as the German was sentenced to a recovery race after going off the track at the first corner to avoid a collision with his teammate. His lead over Lewis Hamilton in the Championship is now only nine points.

Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari) finished sixth ahead of Daniel Ricciardo (Redbull), Nico Hulkenberg (Force India), Carlos Sainz Jr. (Toro Rosso) and Sergio Pérez (Force India). Fernando Alonso (McLaren) fails at the points gate. Romain Grosjean (Haas) is 14th.
