Started 11th on the starting grid following engine element changes, Lewis Hamilton finished fifth at the end of a Grand Prix where, as in Sochi, he did not agree with his team on the strategy to follow at the end of the race. With wet conditions allowing a non-stop race, the seven-time world champion believed he could stay on the track until the end, but the strategists of Mercedes finally arrested him. The Briton was still not convinced about this pit stop after the checkered flag, especially sinceEsteban Ocon (1oe) managed to cross the finish line without going through the pit lane. " I do not know what to say. If Ocon did it, then I could do it, of course, said Hamilton at the microphone of Canal+. We work as a team and I try to help make the best decisions possible. We had a low level of information and we decided to go back, but the track was almost dry and when you put intermediate tires on, they overheat immediately. This is what happened [at the end of the race]. It’s hard to swallow, but it is what it is and we will learn from it.” Leader of the championship before Istanbul, the man with 100 victories in Formula 1 leaves the Istanbul city six points behind Max Verstappen.
