Lewis Hamilton: “An innocent mistake”

With a solid best time in EL1, we thought Lewis Hamilton set off for a clear day in Montreal, Canada. At the controls of a W10 equipped with the engine evolution brought by Mercedes In this event, the world champion intended to reproduce his performance from the first runs in FP2.

But that was without counting on the famous Quebec walls, which trapped both the British and Max Verstappen (Red Bull). Having made a mistake at the exit of the chicane at turn 9, the former driver McLaren damaged his car at right rear, and was only able to complete eight short laps in the session.

“I can't remember the last time I missed almost an entire session, Hamilton confesses. It's really not great to watch the runs from the garage. It’s like sitting in the principal’s office, wishing we were back in class.

It was an innocent mistake. I did several laps on the medium tires and I really tried to find the limit. Obviously, I crossed it slightly. I was surprised at the exit of turn 9 and I slid for a long time hoping that I wouldn't hit the wall.

But these things happen. Just put it behind immediately and “get back on the horse”. Fortunately, Valtteri had a good session, so a lot of analysis will come from that. The guys on the team will do a good job fixing the car tonight and we will come back ready for a better day tomorrow. »

In addition to this mishap for Hamilton in EL2, the Mercedes clan had to deal with a loss of fuel pressure on the car. Valtteri Bottas in EL1. A problem that James Allison, technical director of the German team, believes he has resolved for Saturday.
