“Grateful for life” to Mercedes, Hamilton savors his victory at home

Moved to tears, Hamilton hugged his father Anthony and his mother Carmen for a long time. Just as he celebrated at length this ninth success at home (record for the number of victories in the same Grand Prix) with the team Mercedes, with which he obtained six of his seven world titles. The Briton wanted to pay tribute to a team that has been struggling since 2022, but which never gave up before winning two consecutive victories in two weeks, after George Russell's success last week in Austria.

Lewis Hamilton also looked back on the difficulties encountered since a 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix that remains in everyone's memory. Defeated on the last lap of the last Grand Prix of the season, he had to constantly put his work back into practice, with single-seaters which were not as good as those he had experienced in the past. In the Briton's tears, we saw the delivery of a victory awaited for 945 days, and his success at the 2021 Saudi Arabian GP.

“I am forever grateful to Mercedes and everyone on this team. »

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), winner of the British Grand Prix: “I’m still crying!” Since 2021, I have gotten up every day with the goal of fighting, of working, of focusing my mind on the task at hand. I worked as hard as I could with this incredible team. This is my last British Grand Prix with them, and I wanted to win for them, because I love them, I am aware of all the work they have put in all these years. I am grateful for life to Mercedes and everyone on this team. And these incredible fans, I saw you lap after lap, when I passed the stands! There's no better feeling than finishing at the front here.

It's so difficult [not to win], but what's important is to continue to draw on your reserves, to give your all, even when you feel like you're at rock bottom. There have been days since 2021 when I didn't feel good enough, when I thought I wouldn't come back to the forefront like today. But the important thing was to be surrounded by the right people, who continued to support me. When I saw them working so hard, it motivated me to do the same. Thank you to everyone at the factory, at the circuit, I love you! »
