Lewis: RedBull in better position

How did you feel after this lap which gave you pole?

“I knew I had a good time. As I crossed the line, I had the feeling of having done a good job. Arriving at the second corner, on my deceleration lap, the team told me that I had pole. I was just happy and proud for the team. They worked very well before qualifying and they deserve this pole position. »

Then you stopped? Was there not a gram of gasoline left?

“We have to go for pole in one lap. When leaving the pits, you must warm up the brakes and tires. Then you have to perform. In my second attempt, the ride was not great. The team allowed me to do a second round and I gave everything. You must always have fuel in the car so that the FIA can carry out an inspection. The team therefore asked me to turn off the engine before returning to our pit to avoid a breakdown. »

The Red Bull will start the Grand Prix with hard tires while you will start with soft compounds. How do you see the start of the race? ?

“Red Bull will be in a better position during the first laps but we will see how we behave on the soft tyres. Everything will come down to pit stops, safety cars and the weather. I hope we won't have any rain. »
