The rumor emerged a few days ago, and Liberty Media confirmed this Thursday that the times of the Grand Prix in 2018 would be delayed by ten minutes. The idea for the new owner of the F1 is to offer more time for broadcasters on the grid and with the drivers and teams.
The European and Brazilian rounds will see their weekend program modified with a one-hour delay compared to the traditional times. Concretely, the free practice sessions 1 on Friday will start at 11 a.m. instead of 10 a.m., when EL2 will be launched at 15 p.m.
EL3 on Saturday will run from 12 p.m. to 13 p.m., with qualifying scheduled to begin at 15 p.m. The start of the Grand Prix will be given at 15:10 p.m. The Interlagos event will follow a similar schedule in local time, giving the race a start at 18:10 p.m. French time.
The French Grand Prix in the middle of the afternoon
The case of the French Grand Prix will be somewhat different, since due to the Football World Cup, the race will start at 16:10 p.m. The weekend will begin on Friday with EL1 from 12 p.m. to 13 p.m., and EL2 from 16 p.m. to 17:30 p.m. EL3 will begin on Saturday at 13 p.m. with qualifying at 16 p.m.
