Liberty Media launches F1 TV, a revolutionary online subscription

This is a revolution that Liberty Media is undertaking. The owner of the Formula 1 has been working for several months on a formula for following the Grands Prix outside the traditional framework of television. It is now done: F1 will offer an online subscription service to follow all weekends in full from the launch in Melbourne (Australia) at the end of next March.

The races broadcast on this new platform called “F1 TV” will not include any advertising pages. Even better, fans will have the choice of the 20 on-board cameras arranged in each of the single-seaters.

Everything will be customizable : it will be possible to watch the live stream as well as an onboard camera, or two onboard cameras, or only the usual live stream. Comments in French will be assured, even if the identity of the commentators is not yet known.

French fans will be able to obtain this service for a subscription. In addition to F1 sessions, press conferences, pre- and post-race interviews as well as all support disciplines (Formula 2, GP3 Series and Porsche Supercup) will be followed live.

The icing on the cake, access to the F1 video archives will be open to subscribers, “hundreds of hours of archives of the best moments” according to Mehul Kapadia, the Managing Director of Tata Communications F1.

F1 TV will be available on the Internet via computer, but also on a dedicated application on smartphones and tablets, for Apple as well as for Android or Amazon. Annual offers will soon be launched; the only price revealed is that for the United States, between 8 and 12 dollars per month, which should correspond to a subscription of between 6 and 9 euros.

Another free service, offering radio commentary as well as live timing, will be available. “We are at the beginning of our digital transformation, assures Frank Arthofer, Director of New Business and Digital at F1. The F1 TV subscription is clearly geared towards our most passionate fans, and as we look to capture a new audience for the sport, we must remain focused on delivering experiences and products for enthusiasts. »

“Our goal with F1 TV is simple: to provide fans with the best possible service to watch the races live as well as the best customer experience in the sporting world. »
