Liberty Media regrets Silverstone announcement

The Silverstone announcement to exercise the termination clause of his contract with F1 to organize the British Grand Prix after 2019, did not leave Liberty Media, the new owner of the discipline, indifferent.

The group, now led by Chase Carey, reacted shortly after the explanations from England. “ The week leading up to the British Grand Prix should be a week of great celebration for the F1 and Silverstone, commented a spokesperson, quoted by Reuters.

We deeply regret that Silverstone has instead chosen to use this week to position itself and invoke a break clause which will take effect in three years. Our goal is still to preserve the British Grand Prix. We will continue to negotiate with the developer, in good faith and privately, to reach a fair and equitable solution. »

If F1 has not yet definitively left Silverstone, a new contract must now be negotiated between the two parties to hope for the continuation of this event on the legendary British track, while those responsible have been indicating for several months that the current conditions are not not to their liking.

Other potential solutions do not appear numerous, since Donington, bought by Jonathan Palmer and which also served as the setting for the European Grand Prix in 1993, had announced not being in line to host the event.
