Liberty Media wants to take F1 'to another level'

If Chase Carey plans to take his time to immerse himself in the world of F1, the new president of the Formula One Group intends to take the World Championship towards new horizons. The former president of media company 21st Century Fox was chosen by Liberty Media, the new owners of the sport who bought the rights from CVC Partners Capital, to ensure the future of the sport.

« I agree that the USA offers a long-term opportunity for the discipline, commented Chase Carey on the official F1 website. The Americas and Asia are also growing sectors, but the market has not yet been captured in the USA. It may not have been done the right way in the past and we will try to have a good strategy. We also want to strengthen the historical European places which are the roots of the discipline. »

If Chase Carey recognized that the development of F1 is partly due to the presence of Bernie Ecclestone, he nevertheless seems to want to adopt a different approach than the Briton.

“I'm going to spend the next few months listening to people's requests, added Chase Carey. It is a sport that has many elements and it is important to integrate them to identify the problems... We cannot satisfy everyone, but we must understand the needs of everyone to find a solution. This is not the function of a committee, which tends to be bureaucratic, but we cannot act like a dictatorship either even though they are probably used to it in the industry. »

“I'm too old to play apprentice (with Bernie Ecclestone), but we should bring different things and be able to work together to offer the best to the sport. I have a lot of experience in the media world and sport has counted for a lot. I have worked in television in particular and I understand the importance of live events, said Chase Carey. Bernie has had incredible success, everyone admires him for the system he has put in place, but I think we can still take the discipline to another level. »

Bernie Ecclestone was retained at the head of the FOM for a period of three years, but the British businessman had warned that he would not hesitate to leave his post in the event of disagreement.
