Unlike the first session, this time the drivers set off very quickly. It must be said that the night conditions are those that the drivers will face in the race, while the first session offered a daytime start. The times fall quickly and Nick Heidfeld sets a nice time, in 1:51??760. The drivers are taking more risks than at the start of the evening and many are flirting with the low wall.
Sebastian Vettel takes the lead but Nick Heidfeld takes the first time (1:50??539), with Adrian Sutil setting the best time after a quarter of an hour of session (1:50??382). Mark Webber lowered this mark by more than a second (1), before making a mistake and destroying his left front half on the wall in front of the pits. The red flag is out and Romain Grosjean, who had just recovered a car refurbished, cannot sign chrono.
The session starts again with 45 minutes left in the countdown and Nick Heidfeld takes the opportunity to take the best time, in 1:49:098. The BMW-Sauber single-seaters showed an astonishing level of performance, although they had not been convincing in Monaco and the high-speed circuits seemed to suit them better.
At the end of the session, Heikki Kovalainen took the best time (1:48:952). At the same time, Romain Grosjean is in twentieth place but manages to get back in front of Jaime Alguersuari. At the front, Sebastian Vettel takes the best time (1:48:650), returning to a rank more worthy of the performances at the start of the RedBull season.Renault. On the string, Fernando Alonso is very close to taking his Renault R29 to the lead but fails three tenths behind Vettel. Next meeting Saturday, during the third free practice session, from 13 p.m.
