Free 3: Kubica dominates in the rain

As expected, the rain came to play spoilsport on this second day of competition in Brazil. After the first two free practice sessions held on a dry track on Friday, the third test session took place on a wet track.

If the rain arrived on Friday evening in Sao Paulo, it did not leave the circuit this Saturday but slowed down significantly at the start of the session. Thus, it was on a gradually drying track that the drivers completed their first timed laps.

Very quickly, it became clear that intermediate tires were becoming more interesting to use than “full wet” ones. Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and Fernando Alonso (Ferrari) showing themselves to be pioneers in this field. After competing for the best time, the two men were overtaken by Felipe Massa (Ferrari, 1?19??735) then Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull, 1?19??500). At the very end of the session, it?s Robert Kubica (Renault, 1?19??191) who will achieve the best time.

As the water on the circuit drains much better than in Korea, the drivers were able to push hard without risking spinning. Did the actors on the set have every interest in being able to push, because of the weather forecast for the qualifications?

If rain could fall again in Interlagos, the pilots could also avoid it. But the clouds above the circuit cast doubt on the possible and probable return of rain. The information collected during this session should therefore prove crucial.
