Recruited to compensate for the departure of Sebastian Vettel and support Charles Leclerc, Carlos Sainz has demonstrated to be more than a number 2 within Ferrari. Performing since its beginnings with the Team, the Madrilenian showed great consistency with 19 Top 10s in 21 Grands Prix, all without experiencing the slightest retirement.

Very good results which allowed the Spaniard to bring back no less than 149,5 to the Reds, currently 3rd among the Manufacturers ahead of McLaren (307,5 units to 269). Great satisfaction for the Maranello staff, delighted by the work of Carlos Sainz for almost a year.

« I think it’s the result of a big effort during the winter period, underlines Mattia Binotto, the boss of the Scuderia. He spent time with the engineers, he was often in Maranello, he took the time to analyze the car and the different procedures. There has been a lot of work in Maranello and in the simulator to prepare for the season. I think what we see today is the result of a big effort.

We organized a test session at Fiorano with an old car before the first official tests. Everything was put in place to try to help Carlos with his integration. He was also very good on his side and it went well because he is learning well. He studies, he tries to learn, to understand and I think he was consistent in his integration and in his performances during the season. »

With a perfectly integrated Carlos Sainz and a Charles Leclerc at the heart of the Scuderia project, Mattia Binotto was happy to have “two drivers capable of contributing to the Constructors’ championship” after a 2020 to forget. Enough to be confident for the future.
