The last straw? Most likely. The accident during the third free practice session for the Dutch Grand Prix on Saturday morning will leave its mark. At the house of Logan sargeant because he has considerably reduced his chances of continuing the season and therefore finishing it. But also in the checkbook of Williams who will have to pay several hundred thousand euros to pay the repair bills.

This accident undoubtedly comes at the worst time for Logan Sargeant. Under pressure for many months and while James Vowles no longer hesitates to publicly assure that a replacement during the year is possible, the one who grew up near Boca Raton in Florida did not put in the effort to convince his direction.

« We are continually assessing the situation, already slipped the main team last July. What we told Logan is that this is a meritocracy. You need to make sure you earn your place in the sport all the time. It's the same message he's been receiving for 18 months. And we are open-minded. What I have already said and what I maintain today »

Two months later, it is clear that the Floridian has not improved his situation and has even made it worse. With this new blunder which is added to a long picture, the person concerned has most certainly burned out his last cartridges, even his last.

Sargeant, a foot and a half out

Internally, the pill no longer passes. If he was sometimes able to defend it and welcome its progress, particularly in 2023, James Vowles stepped up to the plate this time. For Williams boss, the accident took place at the worst time as the team struggled to disembark at Zandvoort with significant developments. So when we already have to prepare spare parts as soon as the new ones are produced, we inevitably pull our heads. It was enough to see the expression of the mechanics in the garage to understand their despair in the face of the situation.

« Hundreds of hours have been devoted to developments, pointed out the big boss to Sky Sports F1. We have the impression that they work, but there are few of them. The worst time is when you just put them in with just a few pieces and put it in the wall... »

What will happen to Logan Sargeant now? Everything suggests that his adventure in the premier category has come to an end at the end of the last lap of the Dutch Grand Prix. His accident reinforced recent rumors and names quickly appeared in the Dutch paddock. Andrea Kimi Antonelli is not one since he is expected with Mercedes in EL1 Friday morning. Those who returned with the most insistence are Mick Schumacher and Liam Lawson according to what Sky Sports F1 indicates. The first could benefit from his role as a reserve Mercedes and links between the two teams and bosses to try to recover the wheel of the American in order to compete in the final races. For the second, Red Bull, who no longer hides his desire to make him permanent within one of his two teams in 2025, could push to place him with Williams and thus train him before the big jump next year. For the moment, everything is only at the rumor stage but one thing is certain, the chances of seeing Logan Sargeant complete the current exercise have taken a big hit. Perhaps fatal then his future could be settled in the coming days, he who is already assured of being replaced by Carlos Sainz next year.

In the crash accounting, what amount will be charged to Sargeant in 2024? As for the rumors concerning Mick Schumacher, as a reminder, his total damage bill by the “2021 world crash champion” had been estimated at 4,2 million euros ...So replacing Sargeant with Schumi Jr may not be appropriate for Williams Racing!
