Lotus already looking for drivers

Lotus has only just been allocated a place on the starting grid for the 2010 World Championship and questions about the names of its future drivers are already being raised. Tony Fernandes, the owner of Air Asia Airlines and director of the team, has already indicated that he wanted to have an experienced driver to help the entity grow. “ My preference would be to try to find someone with a lot of experience who can develop the car, even if they are about to end their career. ", he told Reuters.

For now, the Malaysian government and other local entrepreneurs who are at the heart of the project have indicated that they have a list of six Malaysian and international pilots. If no name really stands out, Fernandes nevertheless indicated that he was studying the possibility of putting Fairuz Fauzy in one of the seats of the team. The Malaysian driver is currently competing in the Formula Championship Renault 3.5 Series within the Mofaz Fortec Motorsport team after having passed through the GP2 Series and the A1GP. Tony Fernandes, as team partner with Air Asia, is expected to make an appearance this weekend in Germany where the penultimate round of the FR 3.5 Series season is taking place.

Finally regarding the position of Team Principal, Fernandes explained that he did not want to stay on the front line and that he was going to delegate this function quickly. “ I just want to make sure that we are taking the right direction, the right strategic and marketing plan. Maybe I will be the team principal for one or two Grand Prix. Then I think I would pass the reins to someone else He concluded.
